Letting your dog outside sounds simple.
But depending on your home and schedule, it can become surprisingly complicated.
I tested three different solutions to see which worked best.
Option 1: Manual Door Access
This is the traditional method—opening the door whenever your dog asks.
While simple, it quickly becomes disruptive.
Dogs often ask to go outside dozens of times per day.
Option 2: Hiring Help
Some people hire dog walkers or search for services like "dog walkers near me," "dog daycare," or "dog kennels near me."
While helpful, these options involve recurring costs and scheduling logistics.
Option 3: Installing an Automatic Pet Door
The most reliable solution turned out to be installing an automatic dog door.
This allowed my dog to move freely between indoors and outdoors without constant supervision.
A smart dog door with collar recognition ensures only my dog can activate it.
The result is a much calmer household.
Instead of waiting by the door, my dog simply uses the door whenever he wants.
