Standard vs. WiFi — Which Is Right for You?

Standard models are collar-only activated. Your pet approaches wearing the included MS-5 collar, the directional sensor detects them, and the door opens. Simple, reliable, and proven over 30+ years. No app, no setup, no internet connection required.

WiFi models add everything in the Standard plus full smartphone control from anywhere. You can open or close the door remotely, set 24/7 weekly schedules for when your pet is allowed in and out, view an activity log, and receive real-time door status updates. The WiFi models operate on 2.4GHz networks (not 5G).

Both Standard and WiFi models come with the MS-5 ultrasonic collar — no pairing or programming required. Put it on your dog, turn on the door, and it works out of the box. Additional collars are available for multi-pet households.

What is the Power Pet Classic and how is it different from the Roll-Up?

The Power Pet Classic is the original automatic dog door — the world's first when it launched over 30 years ago, and still one of the best. A rigid panel drops vertically into an opening when your pet approaches wearing the collar, then rises back to close. The Roll-Up is the newer design where the panel rolls upward into a housing. Both are fully automatic and collar-activated; the Classic tends to cost less and has a longer track record, while the Roll-Up fits in tighter vertical spaces and has a slimmer profile.

What's the difference between Standard and WiFi models?

Standard models are collar-activated only — your pet approaches and the door opens. WiFi models add full smartphone app control: open or close remotely, set 24/7 weekly schedules, view activity history, and receive real-time notifications. Both operate on 2.4GHz WiFi (not 5G). If you travel, work long hours, or want precise schedule control, the WiFi model is worth the upgrade.

What's the difference between PX1 (Medium) and PX2 (Large)?

The PX1 has an 8¼" × 10" flap and fits dogs up to 30 lbs. The PX2 has a 12¼" × 16" flap and fits dogs up to 100 lbs. Measure your dog's shoulder height and width to confirm fit. If your dog is between sizes, go up. Call 1-800-255-1279 and our team will help you choose the right size.

Does the collar need to be paired or programmed?

No pairing or programming needed. The MS-5 ultrasonic collar that comes with every Power Pet door works right out of the box — put it on your pet, turn on the door, and it's ready. The door's directional sensors detect when a collar-wearing pet is directly approaching and opens automatically. Pets without a collar cannot open the door.

Which patio height do I need — Regular or Tall?

Measure the interior height of your sliding glass door track from the bottom of the frame to the top. Regular height models (SRE) fit frames 75" to 80¼". Tall models (STE) fit frames 93⅛" to 96". If your frame falls outside these ranges, call 1-800-255-1279 before ordering.

Is the patio door installation easy? Does it require cutting?

No cutting at all. The patio panel slides directly into your existing sliding glass door track, replacing the glass panel. It adjusts to your door's exact height with a spring-loaded top section. The universal lock fits virtually any sliding glass door. Most installations take under an hour with no tools required.
