We received and installed the large wifi pet door. Shipping was fast and had no damage. Overall it was easy to install with good directions. Works good so far and our pups love it. I think it's a great concept with a couple of things that could be better. 1.) For the price, I would like to see a good weather strip kit to come with the pet door. I spent over $100 on weather stripping to make this door draft free. I would be willing to pay a little extra for this since it's such a good product. 2.) I wish the universal lock (sliding door side) and the screw on achors (frame side) of the pet door was better located. Something like one on top and one on bottom to make it more square to the house and easier to tighten up to the slider with weather stripping. Other than those 2 small issues, we are very happy with our purchase. We found the app hard to use until we took the battery out of unit. We were able to pair the unit with the app. Then put the rechargeable battery back in. No issues since. We are greatfull for the extra time on our hands and the dogs can do what they want now. This door has saved me so many trips to the patio door to let the dogs out! Also, when we get stuck at work late I don’t have to worry about the dogs needing to go potty, because they can just let themselves out. It’s definitely saved us a lot of worrying on that front because we both work in healthcare, and often get stuck late at the hospital. So we remodeled our sunroom, and the one thing I wanted was a doggy door because our backyard is completely fenced in. I knew we needed a powered one because one of our girls would get too freaked out having to push a panel/flap every time and also we live in Wisconsin so the winters are cold so I was worried about drafts. That’s when I stumbled across these doors while searching online. The installation was fairly easy, the only issue we had was the edge of our patio door that meets this door was not flat, like they assume it would be, it has an indent in the middle and the inner and outer edges extend to meet the door frame, I’m guessing to create an air gap for insulation, but in order to make this door fit inside that gap we ended up having the carve away at those two edges to make the gap between them big enough to fit the door into it. It wasn’t much, maybe an 1/16 to 1/8” on each side, but it was enough to be annoying. Once we got to winter we realized that we needed some extra insulation along the edges due to drafts around the outside of the door. This was happening because our patio door was thicker than this door, so it didn’t fill up the track enough to completely seal. We used some round insulation piping the kind you use for Windows and such. We just had to stuff it into the space that wasn’t filled around the three sides of the door that met the frame. Then we sealed over it with insulation tape that was clear, so you can’t even see it. It definitely took care of the drafts and was an easy cheap fix. My only complaint with the door is that when you try to use the remote control in the app it can take forever to connect. It doesn’t matter if you are at home in a different part of the house and still on the same Wi-Fi, or not at home and just using the Internet, it still takes way too long to connect through the app. The one time we actually needed to shut the door off so maintenance could get into the backyard without the dogs bothering them my husband tried to connect to the door for 10 minutes and still couldn’t get it to connect so he could shut the door off. We have found that if you let the app sit open on your phone, without switching screens, while you are at home it will take somewhere between 45 seconds to 2 minutes to connect. Which is an eternity when you want to shut the door off quick. And when you are not at home it definitely takes over a minute to possibly three or four minutes to connect. We have not tested this theory, but I am wondering if the reason he could not connect to the door was because he was on the phone at the time with the maintenance guy. I’m thinking that if he had hung up with him and only focused on only the one screen of the app that it might have worked. Once connected the remote control works perfectly, and we have never had an issue with it. So with the connection speed being slow aside it is definitely very handy, since we don’t use the app remote that often. I can honestly say that this was the best money we spent during the sunroom remodel, and well worth it because we have three dogs. My sisters 100 pound lab can even fit in and out of the door, it took him a second to realize how to duck down his head to go out, but once he got the hang of it he could fly in and out just like our 40 pound dog. I would definitely recommend the PowerPetDoor to anyone looking for a doggie door at a reasonable price. All the other automatic ones are so insanely expensive that I just couldn’t justify it. But I definitely can justify the cost of this one!! Overall I love it and I would give it like 4.8 stars (but that’s not an option). They just really need to work on the connection speed between the door and the app and then it would be perfect!
