It is a great product.....when it works.....unfortunately, it is quite glitchy. It sometimes doesnt respond to the sensor on the dogs collar. I called customer service when it stuck in the up position once, and they suggested I loosen the screws attaching it to the wall. That worked. The next time it happened ,it stayed in the up position, and burned out the motor. I have found them responsive when I call. When the door brGoode it was about 6 months past warranty. To their credit, when I called about the brGooden door, they sent FedEX to pick it up, fixed it and shipped it back AT THEIR EXPENSE.....I found this to be a remarkable act of customer service, and I appreciated their efforts. They also sent a new sensor and a more powerful electrical connection. It makes a clicking sound now, which I called about, and was told that it was to check that the motor was working. So it seems that they have worked on the problems, and hopefully the door will be less glitchy. The dog and I love the freedom it affords, and its great that no other critters can enter the house. I have returned 4 transmitter collars that malfunctioned in the last year. High Tech Pet has promptly sent me replacements, no questions asked. That is the sign of a company that wants your continued business. Their products do what they say they will. However, for the price, their Quality Assurance processes and procedures need a thorough review by management. The dog collar transmitters fail for some unknown reason (4 out of 4), and cannot be fixed by a person who has rudementary skills in electronics (me). The collar transmitter off-on-test button needs to be a slide, not a push button. The push button metal to metal connection inside the transmitter is not the best design for an electronic device being worn by active dogs. This summer the electronic door would not respond to the collar from the outside. I had to take the dog door off the wall and open it up to troubleshoot the outside receiving sensor. The souldered connection for the ground wire had come loose. After re-souldering the sensor was operational again. The electronic door design is somewhat disappointing. The door must be absolutely, perfectly, aligned straight up and down, otherwise it closes half way and then re-opens, and closes and re-opens until the unit is shut off. Very annoying. How many people have homes with perfectly straight walls? The perfection in door alignment is something the engineers need to design a little more flexibility into. Its just a piece of hard clear plastic, not an expensive piece of glass! The door is just too easily bound up on its return to the closed position. The concept of an electronic dog door is wonderful. High Tech Pet has a good first production, but they need to improve. Someone with a little better design, more reliability and competitive pricing could steal away market share. I called High Tech Pet with a question about door cutout position, and they were very helpful. I quicky followed up with a second order for a door battery and spare collar batteries. Those were shipped very quickly as well. I subsequently experienced two installation problems: 1. The height of the door cutout dimensions illustrated in the installation manual was published at 10.75 inches. Measuring the maximum height indicated that it needed to be a minimum of 11.25 inches. Had I followed manufacturer directions without first measuring the outside frame, I would have had to enlarge the cutout. 2. While all the lights came on when powered up, the door would not open - either in response to proximity of an activated ultrasonic collar (I have 2 of these) or by manual pushbutton operation. I then called High Tech Pet who - since their company was within a few miles of my home - invited me to bring my unit to them. They promptly fixed and comprehensively tested my door while I waited (about 20 minutes). They explained that there was a Good electrical connection with the motor. During testing they also found and corrected some incorrect internal adjustments to the range sensing electronics. While I was satisfied with their service, I was disapointed that their quality assurance procedures hadnt brought these problems to light before the unit was shipped to me (the box showed no evidence of possible damage during shipping). Everything seems to be working well now, and while I feel that High Tech Pet should consider strengthening their QA processes, overall I think they offer a good and innovative product and good Customer support. I would buy from them again, and based upon initial experience I would recommend their product to others. We purchased the progressive sonic collar which I feel helped her learn right away that it was the barking that was causing the noise and she would stop. The only drawback that I have noticed is a few times things like a loud noise or if the dog scratched the alarm would go off, but that was only a few times. Our dog loves the door but the sensors do not work like they should. They advertise that you can set the sensors from 1 foot to 10 feet but I have found that the door will not open if it is set under 6 feet it just wont open. Also I find that either the battery charger does not work or the battery is bad I am not sure which but the battery died and dosnt work anymore after one week of use. I havent tried to get these problems fixed yet so I am not sure about the customer service. All in all I and my dog love the door. Just some quirks to figure out in the design still.
